Memorial Day weekend 2012 takes place from Friday, May 25th through
Memorial Day on Monday, May 28th. The main purpose the Memorial Day
holiday is remembrance and commemoration of members of the United States
military who died while serving their country. however,
Unofficially, Memorial Day marks, for many, the first long weekend of 2012 and calls
for celebrations, barbecues and, of course, remembering America's
troops. In addition
Memorial Day weekend also marks the beginning of the summer vacation

35th Annual Atlanta Jazz Festival
The Office of Cultural Affairs celebrates the 35th annual Atlanta Jazz
Festival this Memorial Day weekend in Historic Park. The festival will
feature music on three stages with performances by jazz legends and
young guns, as well as a Jazz Eco Village, interactive kids play areas,
jazz education workshops, and vendors displaying some of the city's

5th Annual Blues, Brews, and BBQ Festival
Memorial Day weekend is synonymous with lots of beer, music, and
barbecue, and there's no better place to find that than the fifth annual

Brew at the Zoo
Zoo Atlanta hosts its fifth annual Brew at the Zoo, where attendees can
enjoy music from Arrested Development as they sample various beers and
wines at different stations and goggle the zoo’s 1,500-plus animals.

Decatur Arts Festival
More than 150 artists from the Southeast converge on downtown Decatur
for the Decatur Arts Festival. Collections from Georgia's Goldsmith
Group, Callanwolde Glay Guild, and Atlanta Glass Guild, and other local

Grant Park Pool opens
Opening Memorial Day weekend, the Grant Park Pool offers free swimming
on weekday afternoons from 1:30-4 p.m. through Aug. 8, and paid swimming
($1-$4) beginning Aug. 9 on weekdays from 4:30-8 p.m. and throughout

Memorial Day Ceremony The Smyrna community joins together to celebrate Memorial Day at the 20th Century Veterans Memorial. Mon., May 28, 9:30 a.m. Free. www.smyrnacity.com.
Memorial Day Weekend Salute to the Troops Remember the country's troops at a war memorial during the weekend-long celebration packed with a laser show and fireworks. Park
opens at 10:30 a.m. and the laser show begins at 9:30 p.m. Sat.-Mon.,

MondoHomo
Now in its sixth year, MondoHomo celebrates queer culture in Atlanta as
artists, musicians, and performers come together for four days of
activism and pizzazz at the Arts Exchange. This year, the event
continues its goal to recognize the fundamental aspect of politics in
art with the theme "Queer Justice! Queer Beats!" and will feature spoken
word, burlesque, music, and more. Double Duchess, an electro-pop duo,

Save the Hooch
Beginning Memorial Day weekend, SweetWater Brewery kicks off its sixth
annual Save the Hooch campaign and the brewery will donate proceeds from
the seasonal Waterkeeper Hefeweizen to regional Waterkeeper Alliance
organizations. The beer is sold at participating organizations until

Veterans Remembrance Day
Spend a day in the company of veterans and hear their stories of
wartime through personal accounts and memorabilia. Living history
interpreters represent soldiers of previous wars, including World War I
