Knowing When You Should DIY and When the Salon Tip is Worth It

A study says that women will change their hair more than 100 times during their lifetime. Black women spend billions of dollars on our hair (or someone else’s) each year. Our hair is our glory (and sometimes an inconvenience). The price of getting your hair done ranges from $25 to more than $200. Multiply that by the amount of trips and the long waiting hours and you will have a sum that, like me, many women cannot afford. Relaxing and coloring your hair are the most expensive services, but also the most important. If you get nervous when you see too many hairs after a wash and set, you should definitely invest in letting the experts work their magic.

It is okay to wash your own hair once or twice a week. Get a girlfriend to trim your ends. Apply a deep conditioner and sit under the bonnet dryer you. However, visiting your stylist when you need a specific style or can’t master the look you want or for chemical services is a good idea.

Not sure if you should DIY? Ask yourself these questions:

If I do this can I guarantee that my hair won’t fall out?

If I do this can I guarantee it will look better than before?

Will this help or hinder my goal to having healthy hair?

Remy hair is the most popular type for extensions or weaves. From Hollywood celebrities to business women, people are demanding high quality hair extensions. We know our customers like because it is gorgeous, and long-lasting. Its texture and color can be easily matched to the various hair textures. But, what do you really know about Virgin Remy and Remy hair.

What is Virgin Remy?

The virgin hair is unprocessed 100% human hair, there is absolutely no artificial or non-human hair mixed in with it. Virgin hair has not been chemically treated or colored in any way. It naturally comes in a jet black to a dark brown hue. Cuticles are intact and are in the same direction, preventing tangling and matting. In comparison to processed hair Virgin hair will have a more natural look, movement, and body.

What is Remy hair?

Remy hair is virgin hair that has been chemically treated to give it the desired look and feel (i.e. body wavy, Italian wave, Spanish wave). Although the hair has been treated the cuticle is not stripped. Regular human hair extensions undergo a cuticle-stripping process called acid-bath. Then, silicone is placed over the cuticles to give the hair a faux shine and smooth appearance. This silicone wears off when the hair is washed, and the hairs return back to their unruly state, causing the hair to mat and tangle easily. Remy hair does not mat or tangle because all the cuticles are aligned and intact without the use of silicone.

Both Virgin and Remy hair can last you a long time depending on how well you maintain it and when maintained correctly, can be used for multiple installs.

Where does Remy hair come from?

In collaboration with OPI tennis star Serena Williams and rock star Katy Perry will release nail polishes they created. Teen Vogue Editor Eva Chen broke the story on Twitter after meeting with OPI’s Suzi

Weiss-Fischmann.Serena Williams Grand Slam Collection and the Katy Perry collection offer robust lacquer color and vivid designs. Partnering with a nail polish giant was a natural progression for the tennis champ and the rock star.

 

The OPI Grand Slam Collection with Serena Williams colors will release in sets of two throughout the year, timed with her tennis tournaments. The shades in the Glam Slam Collection will be introduced to coinciding with each of the four major tournaments. Launches begun with the Australian Open in January 2011, followed by French Open in May 2011, in June 2011 for Wimbledon and the grand finally in August 2011 for the US Open.The Wimbledon collection will be unveiled this June.
